Model numbers
The number is the head shape, and it carries across generations. The 5 is a compact wing mallet, the 7 a fang-style mallet, the 9 a larger fang, and the 11 a high-stability mallet. A ".5" usually means a different neck (a small slant or plumber's neck instead of a double bend). Always check the year as well as the number.
